Moon Snail - Euspira Lewisii

These snails are striking to see with their extended mantle and foot, powerfully burrowing, into the sediment. It’s hard to imagine all that tissue fitting back into the shell, but it does with enough time and the release of a lot of water. This snail is strictly a carnivore. Once it has dug its way down to a clam, it drills a hole into its shell and eats it. Their leftover shells are often seen on the beach with a perfect hole just big enough for a necklace string.
